DIY CMV5 project

The DIY CMV5 project is perfect for those interested in building a top of the line tube microphone for an affordable price.

Neumann CMV5 was released in 1947 and is the predecessor of the famous U47. It has a the classic "bottle" body with a separate "lollipop" head for the capsule. The amplifier is based on an EF12 metal tube which is one of my absolute favorite audio tubes.

The sound is in the same top class as the U47 and the other coveted tube microphones from the 50's and 60's.

For my build I use the Alctron BV200, availiable as t.bone retro tube II, as a donor body. All of the electronics, including the capsule has to be replaced to high quality components. It's quite easy and pretty fast to build.

PCBs, tubes and longer bodies can be VERY SOON bought on this site. The rest of the parts has to be sourced from other producers. If you invest in a high quality capsule and transformer you will get a lot of beautiful sound for your money.
